How can i stop gettin beat by suckouts in online poker tourneys?
i only see the flop about 20-30% of the time, dont call unless i hav the pot odds, dont bluff much, basically fold a loser and bet a winner.
i only lose when i have all my chips in with the BEST hand, and some lucky punk hits a 3 outer. should i play higher stakes (to improve the competition to players who wouldnt call 3 outers???) or just keep playing the same and put it down to a bad run. i play internet $5 or £10 tourneys and have won several multi table (300+ players) tourneys. been playin about 3 years. thanks
Higher stakes will definitely weed out alot of those calling stations who always seem to hit on the river. Of course luck is one of the 3 keys in poker, so for sure someone will suck out on you again - at any level. Play at the stakes you are comfortable with, and accept that it is definitely part of the game. BTW it helps me to look at the whole picture instead of just how many outs the guy ended up having. Sometimes they are getting good value to call, sometimes, I have represented a weaker hand to get them to call - in which case, can't really complain that they called and then sucked out right? Also, you are getting all your chips in and then getting eliminated so that tells us a couple of things. 1) The caller is rarely totally inept because he did build up a bigger chip stack to be able to eliminate you (I did say rarely not never) 2) You should expect more loose calls when someone has the opportunity to eliminate a smaller stack. It seems like you have a sound gameplan overall, and you have won some tournaments,so don't worry too much.

There are many people who mistakenly believe that poker is a game that is based on chance and luck. However, this is not the case. What many people do not know is that poker is not merely based on luck, but also on probability. Poker odds are very important to review when it comes to successfully playing the game of poker. Before you can be successful at the game of poker, it is important to understand all the subtle nuances of the game itself. One of these nuances is poker odds, which is a very important aspect when it comes to determining if and how an individual will be able to win a poker hand.
When you play a hand of poker, people bet. This is how people win money at poker; it is due to the betting that takes place at the start of and throughout every poker hand. If a person understands poker odds very well, they will be able to accurately decipher which hands are worth playing and which are not. Using the math and probability skills that are worked out when it comes to poker odds, these players will be able to accurately determine which hands are worth betting higher and which ones may be better to just fold.
While anything is possible, and this is where the chance comes in to some degree when it comes to the game of poker, a number of helpful moves can be utilized by understanding and implementing poker odds into an individual’s education when it comes to the game of poker.

Most of the most played online poker tournaments are of the multi-table type where players start with a fixed number of chips and players try to eliminate one another at the table by winning the most hands. As tables get vacant seats and get "broken", players are reassigned to keep the remaining tables full. This will go on until the last few surviving players end up at the final table. There is also a specialized form of a multi-table tournament called the shootout where players remain playing at their tables until only one player is left standing. The winner is then to compete with other winners on the other tables.

Can you win at online poker "long term" if you have an edge at the table against your opponents.?
I'm looking for mathematical proof that the poker rake can be beaten if you have an edge. Basically just trying to prove some dude wrong. Is there maybe a formula or something?
Mathematical proof? You really can't prove "an edge".
If there was no rake, then the average person would win $100 back for $100 they bet... equaling zero profit.
If you are 10% better than the average person, you'll take back $110 for every $100 bet. If the rake is less than 10% (which it is), then you'll win long term.
But I really don't know how you can prove mathematically what someones edge is.
